a postcard project ・ january 2014

a postcard project is a personal project I've taken up in an attempt to write more regularly to J, through photo postcards of photos I've taken.

One day, it struck me that too many of my photos, both film and digital, are left as they are — not posted, not printed, not shared. Since I've always liked sending random letters, postcards, and packages to J, I thought, why not my own photos? So this year, I will be selecting photos (and quotes) based on my heartfelt intentions, then send them as photo postcards to J on a monthly basis. I am hoping for these postcards to help me speak in another way to him, apart from the random mails I've sent in the past.

For the month of January, I chose this photo from a test roll from my Zenit 12 XP. It was taken under J's block while J was walking his dog. The light symbolises hope and the leaves tell a story about peace. With this, I wished him all the best in every aspect of his life in this new year. I hope he realises how courageous he is for embarking on new beginnings and the quote I left him was — never settle for less than what you imagined possible for yourself — which also resonates with me.
